Jean-Baptiste COGNET

Jean-Baptiste Cognet is a graduate of the Lyon and Valence Conservatories of Music, of Cefedem Rhône-Alpes, and of the Université Lumière Lyon 2.
Founder and member of the projects Walter Dean (audiovisual performances with Guillaume Marmin and Carla Pallone) and Memorial* (poetic and musical performances with Clément Bondu), Jean-Baptiste Cognet also collaborates as a composer and performer for the theatre (Thierry Jolivet, Marion Pellissier, Ambre Kahan or Laurent Brethome), cinema (Adrien Selbert, Florian Bardet or Pierre Giafferi) and more recently for the digital arts, notably by signing the soundtracks of the installations of the visual artist Guillaume Marmin (Ab Irato at the Musiques Volantes Festival – Metz, 2016, 1,3 seconde at the Constellation Festival – Metz, 2019).
His sound work is nourished by ambient sensations, noise textures and lyrical synthesizers, and his musical writing evolves through a psychedelic and repetitive language, while making room for the claimed heritage of pop to techno.
From large ensembles (the fresco Nous qui avions perdu le monde for ten musicians) to small formats (Walter Dean in trio), Jean-Baptiste Cognet develops the interpretation and live broadcasting of his musical creations within his personal projects such as REGULAR (2022), but also during theatre performances mixing sound and video such as Vie de Joseph Roulin by Thierry Jolivet at the Célestins – Théâtre de Lyon in 2019.
